Track Design for 2015 Red Bull Straight Rhythm Unveiled

The motocross/Supercross version of drag racing is set for its second annual event, with a new location and new track design. Tickets are relatively affordable at $30, unless you go the $125 VIP route. Kids five and under are free. We'll be there to check it out on October 10th.  How 'bout you? — Vital MX

Red Bull Straight Rhythm has released information on the 2015 version of its unique track for the October 10 event at Fairplex in Pomona, Calif.  The event turns traditional motocross racing on its head by removing all the turns, resulting in a 1/2 mile-long straight track where riders race head-to-head.  The linear design will include 75 jumps, over 400 feet of whoops and will likely have riders spending more time airborne than on the ground. A best-of-three bracket format will test the riders' mental toughness and bike control over the 2,500 feet-long straight track, built from 10,000 cubic yards of dirt.  Twenty-four riders will compete, broken into two classes – 16 riders in the Open Class and eight riders in the Lites Class (250cc or less). Tickets for the event are now available for purchase at redbull.com/straightrhythm.  Straight Rhythm is a flagship event of the Red Bull Signature Series, a collection of the most progressive action sports events in the world.

Differing from last year, riders will start from an elevated platform, and for 2015 the track will also feature more technical rhythm sections with multiple line options.  Among the obstacles on the track are three speed checks (including a sand pit), two dragonback obstacles and a 10-foot high finish line jump.  The extended whoops section will begin with rolling speed whoops, allowing riders to carry much more speed into the following stadium whoops.  The final stretch includes a rhythm section with five tabletops, allowing each rider to create their own specific line on the path to crossing the finish line first.

Red Bull Straight Rhythm Track Stats:
·  10,000 cubic yards of dirt
·  1,000 semi truck loads of dirt
·  75 total jumps
·  400 feet of whoops
·  Highest jump: 10 feet high
·  Longest jump: 80 feet, peak-to-peak
·  Three Speed Checks (including one sand pit)

Red Bull Straight Rhythm will present a daunting test for some of the world's top riders, including Ryan Dungey, James Stewart and more, as they must focus exclusively on reading the terrain in front of them and correctly judging their bike placement for maximum speed and control.

"Unfortunately, I missed the event last year, but I was able to participate in the test in 2013, which was really fun," said 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Champion, Ryan Dungey. "This is a totally new format, and I'm really looking forward to racing on October 10."

While Red Bull Straight Rhythm will return to Fairplex, it will be held at a new location in the venue, the former horse track.  The 2015 location will offer a substantially upgraded spectator experience, including: shaded seating, better viewing and a large infield vendor / concession area.  General admission tickets cost $30 and VIP Tickets are $160, which can be purchased at www.redbull.com/straightrhythm.

Red Bull Straight Rhythm will air as part of the Red Bull Signature Series on NBC November 29. For more information, visit www.redbullsignatureseries.com.
